Airware’s partner, Ryanair, has announced their plans to transitions to a fully digital system which will in turn eliminate the need for paper boarding passes, and airport check-in!
“I think it will be a smoother, easier journey for everybody.”
- Ryanair Chief Executive, Michael O'Leary
Ryanair have suggested that by May 2025, passengers will be required to use their phones for check-in and boarding when flying. Ryanair will make history as the first airline to go paperless when this is implemented. Michael O'Leary, Ryanair Chief Executive, has said “Everybody who travels with us has the app, the mobile boarding pass is on the app and we’ve got to move more and more people that way … nobody will ever again pay for a boarding pass at an airport - the airport check in fee will be gone”. Currently, about 60% of Ryanair customers use the Ryanair app, a figure expected to rise to 80% by the end of 2024. Passengers using the Ryanair app, powered by Airware, will receive real-time notifications about their flights, including any changes to departure times or gate assignments. By partnering with Airware to provide their check-in appliances, Ryanair can ensure all passengers can check-in using their phones, quickly and efficiently. Airware’s smartphone-first approach is transforming the way airports and airlines process passengers.
